  • Vedanta Group to Invest Rs 80,000 Crores in Northeast India

Vedanta Group has announced that it will invest Rs 80,000 crores in Northeast India. This was shared during the first Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025, held in New Delhi. The summit was organized by the Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region.

Where the Money Will Go

Vedanta will use this money in six Northeast states. The company will invest in:

  • Oil and gas
  • Important minerals
  • Factories for refining
  • Electricity and power
  • Internet cables
  • System connections
  • Renewable energy
  • Power transmission
  • Data centers

Big Plans for the Region

Earlier this year, Vedanta said it would invest Rs 50,000 crores in Assam. Now, it is also putting another Rs 30,000 crores into Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.

This investment will create up to 1 lakh jobs and help the region grow socially and economically.

Helping People and Communities

Vedanta also wants to help the local people by:

  • Building Nand Ghars (modern centers for women and children)
  • Teaching handloom weaving skills
  • Setting up digital classrooms
  • Supporting sports and youth programs

Words from Vedanta’s Chairman

Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Group, spoke at the summit. He said Northeast India is growing fast and has a lot of natural resources and talented people. He added that Vedanta is fully ready to help in the growth of this region.

Natural Wealth of the Northeast

  • Assam has a lot of oil—about 27% of India’s oil reserves.
  • Vedanta’s company, Cairn Oil & Gas, is already producing oil and gas in Assam.
  • This gas helps tea farms use cleaner energy instead of coal and also powers over 100 CNG buses in Guwahati.
  • Arunachal Pradesh has India’s most graphite, vanadium, and rare earth minerals. It also has nearly 40% of the country’s hydropower potential.
  • Vedanta has got rights to explore and use these minerals.

More Support from Vedanta

  • Vedanta helped build a 300-kilometer power line to bring electricity from Assam to Meghalaya. This improves power in both states.
  • The company supports over 3,000 women by teaching them handloom work.
  • It runs training programs in 200 villages.
  • It also works with Kaziranga National Park to help protect wildlife.

The Future of the Northeast

The Northeast is full of natural beauty and resources. It is not just a far-off part of India—it is the future of India’s growth, energy, and sustainable development.
