UltraTech Cement Limited increased its cement-producing capacity by upgrading two of its factories in Nagpur (Maharashtra) and Panipat and Jhajjar (Haryana). They added a combined total of 1.4 million tonnes of production capacity — 0.6 million tonnes in Nagpur and 0.4 million tonnes each in Panipat and Jhajjar. This was to make its operations more efficient and to have more cement produced to satisfy increasing demand.
Through this expansion, UltraTech has an overall capacity of 184.76 million tonnes per annum in India. Combining its overseas facilities, the company is capable of producing 190.16 million tonnes of cement annually now. This development is a step towards UltraTech’s strategy of becoming stronger in India and across the globe.
Earlier this week, the company also declared its largest-ever dividend — Rs 77.5 per share — amounting to a total payout of Rs 22.84 billion. The date of this dividend payout hasn’t been disclosed yet.
UltraTech, in its latest quarterly report, reported that although some short-term issues are likely to plague the cement industry, its financial performance remains largely on track.
