The advanced survey of Panaji’s topography, stormwater drainage network and street utilities by Panaji Smart City Development (IPSCDL) is almost over. This is part of the ‘Urban-Act’ project which aims to systematically understand Panaji’s topography and drainage infrastructure and create a future proof database for climate resilient urban planning.
An official said 98% of the work is complete and only ground verification is pending which will be over soon. IPSCDL has collaborated with Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ India) for the project.
IPSCDL said this mapping will give a detailed real time view of critical infrastructure like trees on roads, footpaths and other utilities and contour data to address urban challenges. The survey data will populate a city database which will support creation of predictive models for climate resilient infrastructure planning.
The organisation said this data will be used to simulate urban scenarios and future climate impacts and give decision makers valuable insights to make infrastructure more durable.
Sanjit Rodrigues, CEO IPSCDL said the aim is to have a complete drainage map of Panaji by the end of the project. He said any further work on drains should be based on the priority and need indicated by this data.
