The Ministry of Steel and its associated PSUs, including SAIL, NMDC, RINL, KIOCL, MOIL, MECON, MSTC, NISST, JPC, and BPNSI, observed the ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ from March 16 to 31, 2025. This event followed the Swachhata Pakhwada calendar set by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Ministry officials and PSU employees across India participated in various activities.
The initiative started with a ‘Swachhata Pledge’ ceremony at the Ministry of Steel. Cloth banners were placed throughout the premises to raise awareness, and thorough cleaning activities were carried out. Officials also participated in ‘Shramdan’ activities, including sorting old records and removing outdated posters. Cleanliness inspections were conducted within the Ministry.
On March 28, 2025, the PSUs held ‘Steel Safety Day’. The Swachhata Pakhwada concluded on March 31, with a commitment to continue cleanliness efforts year-round. During the event, PSUs organized initiatives like cleaning townships, factories, and villages, conducting awareness programs about reducing single-use plastics, and cleaning schools they support under the Swachh Vidyalaya program. The PSUs are also planning further environmental improvements for FY 2025-26, focusing on reducing slag, iron ore fines, and recycling gaseous waste.
