  • Global Network Gathers in Panama to Promote Sustainable Concrete

The Innovandi Global Cement and Concrete Research Network (GCCRN) is hosting its Spring Week from March 17 to 21, 2025 in Panama City. Over 40 universities and 30 companies will come together to accelerate the development of sustainable cement and concrete. The goal is to reduce carbon emissions in the cement and concrete industry and achieve net-zero concrete by 2050.

Davide Zampini, Industrial Chair of GCCRN, says net-zero concrete by 2050 requires teamwork across industries. He calls Spring Week a great place to share new ideas and innovations. Karen Scrivener, Scientific Chair of GCCRN, agrees, saying it’s a big step towards global research to make concrete more sustainable.

The event also allows industry leaders to work directly with students, researchers and scientists to reduce concrete’s environmental impact. Innovandi GCCRN invests €10 million every year in research, €1.2 million of which is dedicated to reducing carbon emissions.

During the event experts will talk about:

  • New materials and processes for concrete
  • Concrete recycling innovations
  • Renewable energy
  • Electric cement kilns
  • Carbon capture advancements

Spring Week will showcase new solutions for sustainable concrete and reduce the industry’s carbon footprint.
