  • Andhra Pradesh Approves Rs 1.35 Trillion Steel Project and Key Development Plans

AP Government approves big plans for industry and tourism. The biggest plan is to allow ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India to set up a massive steel plant worth Rs 1.35 trillion in Anakapalli district. The project will be in two phases:

  • Phase 1: A steel plant of 7.3 million tons per year, costing Rs 559.64 billion and a port of Rs 58.16 billion. These will start by January 2029 and will create over 21,000 jobs.
  • Phase 2: A bigger steel plant of 10.5 million tons per year, costing Rs 800 billion and another port of Rs 53.8 billion. This phase will start by 2033 and will create more than 40,000 jobs.

The government also approved plans to develop new ports and fishing harbors along the coast and will convert a Rs 24 billion power bill into equity to make Visakhapatnam Steel Plant profitable again. The state police will now provide security to the plant instead of central security.

To boost tourism, the government plans to build 50,000 hotel rooms in next 5 years and develop temple tourism. They will also reduce bar license fee for 3 star and above hotels from Rs 660 million to Rs 250 million.

Other approvals include financial support to AP Power Finance Corporation to raise Rs 7.1 billion and Polavaram-Banakacherla link project management plan. The government will also promote culture and support arts and youth programs.
