  • JSW Steel’s Steel Production Grows in May 2025

JSW Steel produced 2.27 million tonnes of crude steel in May 2025, which is 8% more than the same month last year. So far this year, its total production has grown by 13%.

The company used 80% of its production capacity in India during May. This was lower because one of its blast furnaces in Dolvi was shut down for maintenance. The furnace was restarted on May 30.

JSW Steel is India’s largest integrated steel maker and is part of the US$ 24 billion JSW Group. It has a total steel-making capacity of 35.7 million tonnes per year (MTPA), including 1.5 MTPA in the US. Another 5 MTPA of capacity is being added. The company aims to reach 43.4 MTPA in the next three years.

Its Vijayanagar plant in Karnataka is the largest steel plant at a single location in India, with a capacity of 17.5 MTPA.

JSW Steel works closely with Japan’s JFE Steel to make high-quality steel for cars, electrical goods, and infrastructure.

The company also focuses strongly on sustainability and innovation. It has been named a Steel Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association for seven years in a row. It also scores high in climate and water-related rankings and is listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices.

More than 80% of its steel in India is certified as responsibly produced. Four of its sites have full Responsible Steel™ certification. Its SEED project, which focuses on clean energy and reducing carbon, was recognised at COP28.

JSW Steel plans to cut its CO₂ emissions by 42% by 2030 and aims to be fully carbon-neutral by 2050. The company also plans to use 100% renewable energy in its steel production by 2030. It is working to protect biodiversity, improve air quality, use less water, and ensure no waste water is released from its plants.

JSW Steel is also known as a great place to work. It has been certified as a Great Place to Work for three years and is recognised as one of India’s best employers for nation-building, health, and wellness.
